About the UMass Donahue Institute

The Pioneer Valley Health Careers Opportunity Program (PV-HCOP) project is managed by the Donahue Institute, which is part of the University of Massachusetts (UMass) President's Office. Established in 1971, the UMass Donahue Institute coordinates multi-campus initiatives that link the internal resources of the University's five campuses and UMass Online with the needs of government agencies, corporations, and non-profit organizations. We support the UMass President's Office in numerous system-wide initiatives and strategic external alliances, and draw on our unique position within public higher education to serve as a bridge between theory, innovation, and real-world applications. Our staff of more than 120 includes experts in workforce development, adult learning, research, educational program design, curriculum development, organizational development, training, and project and fiscal management. Further information maybe obtained from www.donahue.umassp.edu.

PV-HCOP is a federally funded program of the US Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS). The Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) oversees this three-year project, which involves collaborative partnerships with healthcare organizations, higher education institutions, public high schools, and regional employment boards. Preference for enrollment in the program will be given to students enrolled in the communities and schools of Holyoke, Franklin County, and Springfield; areas that contain significant numbers of underserved students who could benefit from the initiative. Information about HRSA or DHHS maybe publically accessed at www.hrsa.gov or www.hhs.gov.
