Franklin County Students

Franklin County/Greenfield, MA

The Greenfield/Franklin County area represents the northernmost region of the Pioneer Valley Health Career Opportunity Program (PV-HCOP), and a host of partners will be collaborating to ensure students learn of the depth and variety of opportunities that may be available to them in seeking careers in health care. HCOP will be coordinating health career awareness and preparation in Greenfield High School, Franklin County Technical High School, and Greenfield Community College. Other supportive agencies include Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Farren Care Center, and the Franklin/Hampshire Regional Employment Board.

Through its partners, the HCOP initiatives for the Franklin County/Greenfield area will be implemented through a multiplicity of strategies designed to expose students, parents, and other supportive networks to the variety of careers in allied health. Individuals who are a part of Adult Literacy programs and community education services are also encouraged to learn about requirements for a career in the healthcare sector. There are advantages to engaging oneself in more academic rigor, and it is rooted in preparing for a career in health. In order to prepare for entry into health professional programs, interested parties should begin their search with inquiries of the schools offering such programs, and HCOP guidelines will provide the structure.

Health career exploration activities in the Franklin County/Greenfield communities are conducted through career fairs at middle schools and high schools. The Baystate Franklin Medical Center annual "Blood and Guts" program is another event occurring in the area which highlights various medical careers. Other programs are the Spring Nursing/Health Fair at Greenfield Community College, and the student partnership program at Farren Care Center. The Farren Care Center program matches volunteer students from the University of Massachusetts Amherst working with high school students in the area to provide recreational activities for residents at Farren Care Center.
