The HCOP initiatives for the Holyoke community will be coordinated by Teacher Advocates from Holyoke Community College and administrators from the Holyoke Public Schools. A 6-week summer institute workshop for rising 9th graders will occur at Holyoke Community College and involve academic course work as well as heath career exploration activities. Students will be recruited from the various middle schools in the Holyoke Community. During the summer program, students will receive instructions from higher education officials as well as secondary school personnel. Highlights of the summer program include MCAS instructions, Literature/Composition, and Bio-medical Sciences.
William J. Dean Technical High School provides its students with health career exploration through its Health Services curriculum, which prepares students to enter the Certified Nurses Aide career path. Students may continue enrichment programs by attending the CONNECTIONS program, which offers after-school activities.
The health career exploration program at Holyoke High School will be coordinated by the HCOP Teacher Advocate, who will work with guidance counselors and teachers to ensure students are aware of health career activities.
HCC offers an array of health-related certificate programs, in addition to, several Associate of Science degrees in healthcare fields. A significant component of HCC's community initiatives is its Transition to College program, which recruits students from minority and diverse backgrounds and communities, enrolls the students in college preparation programs, and assists these students in later enrollment.
