Holyoke Health Center joins PV-HCOP partnership
Pioneer Valley Health Careers Opportunity Program (PV-HCOP) is very pleased to announce the addition of the Holyoke Health Center (HHC) as a collaborating partner. The addition of the HHC offers PV-HCOP affiliated students with valuable resources and a clinical site where students can come to learn about the variety of allied health careers in a community setting.
HHC will also provide PV-HCOP affiliated students with a career advocate. The career advocate will work with the teacher advocate and students of the Holyoke public schools to ensure that students have the opportunity to supplement their academic curriculum with clinical exposure and experience.
HHC will also offer the PV-HCOP students and communities:
- Assistance in recruiting youth from HHC staff, HHC programs and HHC patients for participation in an afterschool health club
Coordinate visits and tours of HHC such as:
- Host a parent-student info night with a focus on programs and careers available at the health center
Assist in designing and implementing programs for Health Club students including:
- Development of an assessment tool to measure the health club participant’s knowledge of health topics, personal health needs, and areas of interest to shape program design
- Development of programming for students on taking control of their health, establishing regular recommended preventive care, learning about recommended care for their existing health issues (asthma, diabetes, etc) and reviewing their family history, risk factors and pro-active responses to personal health
- Recruit HHC health professionals for panels and discussion on health careers and the academic preparation necessary.
- Identify and schedule demonstrations of appropriate and available medical equipment
- Identify HHC health education programs and review how they connect to patient support
